Another weekend of NBA action is highlighted by a pair of Saturday battles between surprisingly fast starting teams taking on traditional powers. Both Milwaukee and New Orleans have gotten off to strong starts in 2007 and could be among the teams vying for key playoff positions at the end of the season. First though, they will have to prove themselves against the favorites in their divisions.
The Bucks, who won their first six home games of the season to rise to the top of the Central division, host the Pistons. The Hornets meanwhile, are building a solid foundation with good defense, yielding just 92.2 PPG as of Monday, third best in the NBA. They’ll get their shot at the Mavericks on Saturday night, but watch out, Dallas has thrived against good defensive teams, going a perfect 9 & 0 ATS in its last nine games versus teams allowing 93 or fewer points per contest. The Sunday board features a showdown between Eastern Conference contenders Boston and Cleveland. The host Celtics are everything prognosticators have thought they would be, but they have struggled historically at home versus teams like Cleveland who rely heavily on the 3-point shot. Going into the week’s action, Boston was 10 & 25 ATS under Doc Rivers against teams attempting more than 18 3-pointers per game. That could be a key angle to consider since the Celtics figure to be a heavy favorite. It’s a full weekend of NBA betting opportunities and it all starts Friday with the ESPN doubleheader featuring the already mentioned Celtic and Miami, plus the Lakers and Utah.
